The Adriatic Sea, as the most beautiful bay of the Mediterranean Sea, gently splashes upon
the shores of Dalmatia and its thousand islands, islets, and cliffs. The transparency of the
Adriatic Sea is greatest around the outermost Dalmatian islands, where it reaches 56 meters
in depth. The depth of the sea on the outer side of the Dalmatian islands is up to 200 meters
and the greatest depth of 1400 meters was recorded in the southern basin.

Dalmatia has, for a long time, been famous in the tourism world for its clean sea, abundance
of sun, numerous islands and islets, natural beauty, and particularly for its cultural monumental
heritage and the cultural events (Passion heritage, games of knighthood, folk songs, folklore,
and festivals).

Vodice, a town and harbour in northern Dalmatia, 11 km northwest of Sibenik; population 5,050.

Ivan Skoko, an architect from Sibenik; the Baroque belfry was erected by master Vicko Macanovic
in the 18th century. The painting of the Holy Family on the main altar is a work by an anonymous
master from the 17th-18th century. - The remains of a building from the Turkish period are at the
entrance into the town. The small church of the Holy Cross (the former parish church), built in
1662 by Vicko Ivanov from Korcula, is situated on the graveyard to the west of the town. Nice
beaches, peaceful coves and aromatic vegetation facilitate the development 
of organized tourism in Vodice, which emerged in the 1960s. The inhabitants of Vodice pay
special attention to nature and environmental protection (afforestation project "One
Thousand Palms"). Along with a variety of accommodation capacities - hotels, apartments,
campsites, the extraordinary rich catering offer made Vodice a very popular summer resort.
There are more than 100 catering establishments in Vodice, half of them offering various food
(fish, mussels, crabs, pasta, traditional cuisine), including the old and original Dalmatian dishes.
Vodice disposes of three tennis courts, a football field, as well as basketball and volleyball courts.
A sports centre is located near Hotel Olimpija. 

Srima, 3 km from Vodice, is a tourist destination on Sibenik's shoreline. There are several
archeological sites from the Early Christian Period (6th century) in Srima, while the place itself

population owning ice cream shops and jewellery stores, and some serbs from nearby villages and some
czech women married to local croatian men

Vodice is a popular tourist destination in Croatia, with most of the population oriented towards
providing accommodation for visitors in the city's hotels, motels, and pensions.

Vodice was first mentioned in 1402 although it was founded already in the Roman times as Arausa.
Its name derives from the word meaning water sources which supplied the whole area. The defense
walls from the times of the Turks with the Coric tower testify the past times. Other similar monuments
are St. Cross' church on the former graveyard, built in 1421 and the parish church in the town centre
built in 1746.

Vodice is birthplace of famous Croatian playwright Ivo Bresan. 
On the nearby hill Okit during the Turkish invasions, refugees founded a settlement and on its top
the chapel Lady of Mercy was built in 1660. Vodice has pebble, sandy, and cement beaches.

Vodice is a small city in the Sibenik-Knin County on the coast some 10 km north of Sibenik. About
9,000 inhabitants, 5,000 in the city itself. In the last years it has become kind of a mondene spot
of the tourism of the mid-Dalmatia. Until 1997 Vodice had status of a community.The coat of arms
of Vodice adopted before 1990's is blue bordered shield divided horizontally in yellow and light blue
with a gray well bearing yellow shape of the church portal, above it a tower embattelemnts and in
base a red bar above two white wavy lines. This coat of arms is apparently still used, but as far as
I have ntocied there is no flag to go with it. probably the design did not pass thouh the Ministry
of administration procedure, and I doubt that such as it is it would. I estimate that it was originally
adopted in 1980's, and probably the original design included a red five-pointed star or some other
emblem of the socialist society (probably instead of the church in the middle), however, I found no
sources to confirm that.
