I got it too ! apparently, he is receiving the messages from the limewire translation mailing list, and does not remember that he subscribed to it and confirmed his subscription. Or someone got access to his emails on his PC (possibly his own children at home...), and he does not know that he subscribed to it. If he reads this message, he should know that he can unsubscribe at any time. This list does not tolerate advertizing, and fights against those attempting to use it to relay spams. Even LimeWire LLC itself (who operates the mailing list server) has not used the list to send any announcement (not even new public versions available). All discussions are maintained to remain on topic, and those abusing it are filtered out. However, it should be noted that the list is open, but with some conditions: * the list can also be consulted without subscribing, by visiting the online archives, so anyone can judge before subscribing about which type of content is relayed through it (online archives are hiding the source email addresses, to avoid these archives being harvested by web-bots stealing email addresses). * anyone cans subscribe or unsubscribe at anytime (there's no delay, the effect is immediate once the option has been verified and confirmed). * anyone can write to it, but if he is not a subscriber, his posts will be screened before being relayed * no one receives messages from the list unless he has requested it, and confirmed it with a secret temporary token sent to their subscription email address. * the list sends monthly reminders to all subscribers about how to unsubcribe. * emails relayed by the mailing list are signed with the verified identity of the mail server, which uses a static IP address, whose ownership is easy to associate with LimeWire LLC (it's not the interest of LimeWire being listed, so LimeWire applies several security issues). * the list of current subscribers to the list is protected (not accessible to any non-subscribers), and not shared with third parties (LimeWire manages the list itself without using any commercial third party services), and not offered to third parties to relay their ads (like on many mailing lists, like Yahoo Groups). * The list does not generate any added revenue to LimeWire, this is clearly a service made by individual people and for those people to allow themselves to find private contacts or meet other people with the same precise topic of interest. This is easy to verify by using the archives. But anyway, some posts here are escaping this control. Generally, such emails are handled manually: when it is clear that one receives posts that he does not want, and we can reasonnably verify that his request email was not faked, this subscription is deleted without requiring that the requester applies the documented automated unsubscription procedure. But I know for sure that some subscribers to this list have the posts they receive relayed to other lists. I have signaled that, but we continue to receive non delivery reports from unrelated sources, each time we write to the list: ******************************************* TO ALL SUBSCRIBERS TO THE LIMEWIRE TRANSLATE LIST: ******************************************* PLEASE, DON'T RELAY THE MESSAGES FROM THIS LIST to other lists (not even to third-party archiving services). PLEASE VERIFY YOUR EMAIL INBOX FORWARDING OPTIONS, AND DELETE ALL FORWARDS TO OLD EMAIL ADDRESSES THAT NO LONGER EXIST OR ARE NOT ASSOCIATED TO YOU OR THAT YOU NO LONGER CONTROL. ******************************************* There's currently a subscriber, that is (or was) located in Houston (Texas), that does not respect this requirement (his email server is most probably unsecure, or harvested by spamware, because this server also uses forged "From:" in the non-delivery reports, tring to fake the headers nd message of the email server of our own ISP, along with messages in a language that our own ISP never uses! Our own ISP never sends NDR this way). Thanks a lot. Philippe. _______________________________________________ translate mailing list [email protected] http://lists.limewire.org/mailman/listinfo/translate
