NFS mount problem

I've looked through the archives on this problem, but found no solution 
I could understand yet.

The problem with Guarddog and NFS only applies to mounting shares. For 
this I have to disable server and client firewalls. After they are 
mounted, I enable the firewalls and traffic passes freely.

Is there a workaround for this? Why is it that only mounting is blocked?

One suggestion I received was to allow the client's IP address to bypass 
filtering in iptables. I have no idea how to use iptables, and whether 
it isn't easy for anyone to just spoof the IP address to gain access.

Any suggestions? Or is the answere to use Samba instead?

(I'm running Guarddog 2.5.0 on Kubuntu Dapper, which uses iptables 
1.3.3.)
