To be absolutely cautious, you could stop the adsl connection for the 
period of time when the firewall is off:  adsl-stop, adsl-start
 From what I have seen, when guarddog is installed and configured, it 
takes over the iptables script and loads it at each subsequent boot, so 
I would be inclined to just do that much.  Check with Shields Up at 
www.grc.com to see if it is working.  You'll have to check into the help 
for using guidedog as I have not used it.  I don't think rp-pppoe is 
directly affected by the adsl service that appears in Mandriva chkconfig 
and I don't think the firewall has anything to do with initiating the 
connection.   It might be a choice to start at boot when rp-pppoe is 
configured.  I don't know.   When I used adsl/rp-pppoe (cable, now), I 
preferred to start it manually.
