I installed guarddog
then made super user and it updated my computer
immediately after this I could not go to any websites at all.
what would I have to tinker with to get Guarddog to still protect me , but allow me to go to websites?

* Make sure you have read the tutorials and manual, which are
available on the main web site, before asking questions.
