The IANA has register the SSL ports only for POP3, not for NNTP and SMTP.
But the using of secure ports for SMTP and NNTP is a historically common
practice. Also the TLS RFC supported not SSL on secure ports. In germany
supply less providers SMTP on special ports without TLS-Handshake.
