You can set Hamster to download only the x newest/oldest/elsewhat.
You have to set this on "First Pull".
Sorry, I don't know where to set exactly in Classic 2.x

I don't think so, perhaps Claws/Windows only dial up?
Hamster won't do such a automatic without using a script which say so.
