I must have missed that one then - gmx is a little unreliable and I have

In theory, there is no reason why you couldn't have apache+php present a 
web based client to a NNTP or POP3 data source, and provide a web-based 
outbound interface to SMTP; hamster serves in those roles admirably as 
the server, and is client agnostic.
