Re: iCommune will be reborn

Dear French-speaking friends,

I cannot speak French, but I don't mind if you do. The one who calls 
himself "The Enslaver" does not speak for all of us monolingual 
English-speakers. Please feel free to communicate in whatever language 
you need to.

Dear "The Enslaver",

Please do not be so rude. The Internet belongs to everyone, and not 
everyone speaks English. If you're that  incredibly xenophobic that you 
can't handle seeing emails in another language in your inbox, you may, 
for your own health and sanity, want to unsubscribe.

Dear People for Whom iCommune Isn't Working:

Setting up iCommune requires patience and willingness to tweak one's 
computer. The is no One Magic Fix. iCommune uses Apache Web server, 
which comes with OSX, and setting up iCommune may mean messing with 
Apache or with the permissions on one's folders. Please do not yell at 
or otherwise abuse the people who offer advice just because it's not 
working for you.

In order for iCommune to work, Web Sharing must be enabled. The 
permissions for the folder containing your music must be set to 755 - 
Owner Read/Write/Execute, Group and Everyone Read/Execute. The 
permissions can be checked and set by getting the info for the folder in 
the Finder.
You can check if Web Sharing is working by entering your folder's url in 
a browser. The url can can found by looking in the iCommune prefs window 
or by looking at your Web Sharing settings. You should see folders and 
files listed if it's working properly.
The folder where you music is must be selected in the iCommune prefs 
window. Otherwise it may work via a browser but not via iCommume.

And finally, all of these instructions are for people who have regular 
old os 10.2.3, without any strange configurations or unusual third-party 
software. If your OS is set up in an unusual way or you've installed 
lots of third-party software that uses TCP/IP or the network or Apache, 
then I suggest looking in to that if iCommune isn't working.

Can one of you kind bilingual folks translate this for the Francophones?

The concept "anti-American" is an interesting one. The counterpart is 
used only in totalitarian states or military dictatorships. Thus, in the 
old Soviet Union, dissidents were condemned as "anti-Soviet." That's a 
natural usage among people with deeply rooted totalitarian instincts, 
which identify state policy with the society, the people, the culture. 
In contrast, people with even the slightest concept of democracy treat 
such notions with ridicule and contempt. Suppose someone in Italy who 
criticizes Italian state policy were condemned as "anti-Italian." It 
would be regarded as too ridiculous even to merit laughter. Maybe under 
Mussolini, but surely not otherwise.
