I think The Doctor was speaking of Cleanfeed, and not PyClean.
Seems like the syntax is right for Cleanfeed, and the issue is solved 
according to a thread he also started in news.software.nntp.

Thanks for your message Steve and your work on both Cleanfeed and 
PyClean, which is very much appreciated.
