I did this for a while. You really need very little resources to run it. However, unless you are running your raspberry pi with an NVME drive or you can put /var/news on a reliable NFS or other storage drive, it is not recommended. 
Mostly because the disk caching will ruin an SD/USB flash drive in a few months because neither are meant for those kinds of workloads.

I ran opensuse tumbleweed and used the latest binary version of INN that was available at the time mainly because compiling it myself was a bigger chore than I wanted to do.
