Summary: ayttm hangs at startup

Initial Comment:
On a RedHat 7.3 machine, configure & compile went fine
(except I don't have ARTS installed on this box). When
I fire up the binary, however, basically nothing
happens. gdb returns no stack, and I get no error
messages. It doesn't seem to be *doing* anything,
because the process doesn't seem to be consuming any
cpu time or memory.

I'll attach strace output (which is big and messy, so I
didn't paste it into the description).

It's altogether possible that I've done something
insane, but I really don't think I did anything
unusual. My machine's pretty standard, too; and I'm
running kernel 2.4.24.

the only way to disable the spell checker is to make sure it
isn't found while running configure. i think renaming
pspell.h or aspell.h when running configure might do it for you.

Hmm, is there a way that I could recompile it without the
spellchecker? (It's not something I would use anyway.) Thanks.

can't say for sure, but it seems to be locking up on the
spell checker.
