Problems on FreeBSD

Is anyone successfully using ayttm on FreeBSD?  I'm on FreeBSD 4.9,
and having all sorts of trouble.

When I install it from the port tree, it installs 4.6-17, but when I
run it, I get a "Memory fault (coredump)."  If it would help, I'll
figure out how to do a gdb trace.

So I tried installing from CVS.  This required upgrading automake and
a few other tweaks, but I eventually got it to install and run.  But
it acts like it doesn't know about any services; the drop-down menu of
services when I'm trying to create an account is empty.  Any idea what
might cause this?  The modules do exist in /usr/local/lib/ayttm.
