Webcam chatting- slow frame rate

Hello All I finally have ayttm w/ webcam working thanks to an old post by Subash. Even though I have tinkered with the .webcamrc file. I changed the default "delay" from 3 seconds to 1 second it still seems to only refresh every 3-5 seconds. I have read "man webcam" but I dont see anyway to make it refresh faster. Am I missing something? Any tips?
