Cool, this can work. Here's a few pointers on this patch:

0) Don't use the xpm. Use stock gtk icons. They're uniform and
prettier. Look for Gtk Stock Items
1) Have a single button (look for GtkMenuToolButton) in the toolbar
that drops down to show font and color options
2) Use Ctrl+Shift+F for the button

I'm assuming you'll also implement the actual functionality :)

The ayttm-devel list invite is still pending I guess, I'll get it done.
