This is possible using the Jabber plugin with the following settings:

server: chat.facebook.com
port: 5222
ssl: no

You might need to choose your facebook username from the web interface
first.

As far as I remember, Facebook staff has promised to move their chat to
XMPP. That was about two years ago, but since we don't have enough human
resources (as in workforce), I think we are going to keep waiting for that
to happen.
