Neighbor deletion question

Hello,
I am running a 2.6.14 kernel and I have the following learned neighbor
entry:

fe80::220:ecff:feab:2bce lladdr 00:20:ec:ab:2b:ce router STALE

I issue the following command to delete this entry:

Ip -6 neigh del fe80::220:ecff:feab:2bce dev eth0

I get no error back, and the corresponding show command result is:

fe80::220:ecff:feab:2bce router FAILED

Then in about 2 minutes, the corresponding show command result is:

fe80::220:ecff:feab:2bce lladdr 00:20:ec:ab:2b:ce router STALE

Can someone explain why this occurs?
