As you may be aware, I am currently the leader of the ircd team and
have been for a very long time.
You may not also be aware, but for at least the last two years I
actually have not wanted to be in that position. I don't really
enjoy ircd coding and was only in that position because no one else
wanted it.
I have tried in the past to pass this role on to others, but it has
never worked out.
Now, dg has offered to take my place as ircd team leader and I would
take his place as systems team leader. This actually fits in well
for me with my current interests, since systems is all about
administering software on the various machines that Blitzed has
access to.
But as we don't want to make any sweeping policy decisions just
based on conversation in #blitzed, I do have to ask if there is anyone
else who thinks they would like to take on this role too.
What the ircd team is supposed to do:
Maintain our current ircd software, including ongoing
development, deciding what it is we actually use, making
releases and organising things so that admins know what they
should be running.
There has been very little ircd development at Blitzed in the last
few years. We are now running an ancient ircd that no one wants to
work on. You have seen previous conversations about (and abortive
attempts at) switching.
If you think that you can take on this role then please contact us
within the next 48 hours at [email protected] Your essay
question is:
What is your vision for the sort of ircd that Blitzed will
use and what are your proposals for getting there from here?
I suggest that dg does not need to answer this question as he is
going to be the ircd boss by default. :)
