In fairness it's very hard to start a channel (or more correctly,
it's easy to start a channel but hard to make it become more than
just one or two people), and IRC has changed a lot in the last 10
years in line with how consumer Internet access has changed.

Thanks for your comments.  I think we are doing okay for a
4-year-old IRC network that started from nothing.  There is still a
lot that could be improved, the most critical of which we don't have
that much control over: getting people to move active channels here.

Or maybe we do.  Costner said "If you buid it, they will come";
perhaps for IRC networks it should be "If you build it, they will
come, and if you don't fuck it up all the time then they might
stay." I have a lot of work to do on services to try and get the
second bit right.
