connregex question

I have to confess total ignorance to more complex regular expressions like the
ones used in BOPM's connregex.  I'm looking at using BOPM with SRVX's "snoop"
module to see net joins.

Here's what BOPM will see:
[Feb 05 09:43:57 2005] IRC READ -> :[email protected] PRIVMSG
#somebopmchan :[03:43:57] NICK UserNick [email protected] [1.1.1.1]
on hybrid.il.us.protium.org

"NICK" is enclosed in bold control codes.  Does anyone have a good regex to
match on this? I tried my best, but failed miserably.
