Hi all, I've noticed that irssi will ignore channel mode +d if it's set on a channel (i.e. not display it in the channel status). From the source code this looks intentional, placing +d in the same category as +e, +I etc. (modes which are complex but the client doesn't really know about). This presents a problem for me as I'd like to add a +d channelmode to QuakeNet's ircd, and being a large network we have a non-trivial number of irssi users. The mode would be a "simple" mode (i.e. set or cleared, with no parameters)[1]. Myself and others have looked and haven't found any major network which uses +d as a more complex channel mode (i.e. unsuitable for displaying in the status bar). Would it be possible to change the behaviour in irssi for future releases? Cheers, splidge (David Mansell) QuakeNet person [1] In case anyone is interested, the precise use for +d would be as a companion to the recently introduced +D "delayed join" channel mode. +D makes joining users "invisible" until they actually do or say something; it's intended to cut down on join/part spam on large channels[2]. However, "invisible" users are not made visible when +D is removed, which means the mode can be abused to hide clients from unsuspecting channel users. Whilst the identity of "invisible" users can be revealed (with /names -d #channel), it's not necessarily obvious that they are there in the first place. The +d channel mode would be used to indicate that such invisible users were present on the channel despite +D not being set (the user setting -D would automatically set +d, and the server would set -d later when the last "invisible" user either left the channel or became visible). [2] This is to reduce the pressure on sendq's and network resources rather than to make users clients look tidier (which can of course be done with client-side ignores).
