If we are recommending MUD clients, I have to throw in props for my favorite of all time, Tintin++ (http://www.scandum.com/tintin/). Makes scripting a breeze! I can see why you would want to have telnet/mud in an irssi window (to be able to switch from chatting to mudding by changing irssi windows) but I don't think it can be done. Screen has some keen shortcut keys to switch between screen instances, it's a nice program to use if you are able to.
