Problem: changing window

Hi,

i am new to irssi, and i experience a problem changing the window. Alt
+number works fine for me, but the compfortable way control (or meta) +
arrow keys does not work. Instead of changing the window, I get
characters like 5D (control + arrow left) 5C (control right) or 3C 3D
(alt) in the text field.

I am searching for hours now to solve the problem, can anyone help me...
