SOCKS5 proxy support has to be compiled in, the proxy_foo stuff is for
HTTP proxies and will not work with SOCKS5.

Further, last time I checked in 0.8.11, if you compiled in SOCKS proxy
support, it would _only_ work with a SOCKS proxy and not connect
normally. This was unacceptable so I reverted.
