how to set up domain hostname in jabberd14

Hello jadmin list,
I have some difficulties to set up my jabberd14 install to work as I desire.

First  I put "quzz.de" between the <host/> tag.
But I always got  an error message in my jabber client when I  wanted
to  register a username like "[email protected]". No way to register.

Then I changed  the <host/> tag  to "jabber.quzz.de" and I was able to
register a user like [email protected]

So  it works  with a subdomain but not  with the main domain???
What's wrong?

(the dns entry for quzz.de points to  my server and all subdomains
(like jabber.quzz.de too)
