joining password protected rooms

We are using build 39 of Exodus and we are having
problems getting it to recognize and join password protected rooms.
We are using Exodus with Jabberd 1.4.

We are pre-configuring some rooms in our jabber.xml for for Jabberd.
In the room configuration, we cna specify a password like so:

<room jid="admin-8PHf0o9tX6far/RLuOQ03/[email protected]" >

<name>Adminz only</name>

<secret>con0r</secret>

<notice>

<join> just rocks!</join>

<leave> gets lost</leave>

<rename> feels it is more important to be known as
</rename>

</notice>

However, Exodus is unable to join those rooms using the password listed
inthe <secret></secret> tags. When someone tries to join
the room, the server/exodus responds "You are not allowed to enter the
room".
