RE: Offline File Transfer and Exodus

Hi

Exodus does have a setting that allows transfer of files via a webdav
server (options->file transfer). The message that is transferred then
passes the URL of the transferred file via a jabber message after
transferring the file to the webdav server, and the other client
performs a http get (this looks like a standard file transfer). It seems
to me that a small change to the client could present this file to the
other client(s) as a hyperlink. This would effectively allow offline
file transfer, where offline messages are supported. This could also be
very useful in persistent rooms

The problem is with security: the webdav call will need to be able to
authenticate to the server, and the webdav 'put' will need to attach an
acl of some sort (similar to that described in JEP-0129).  The
authentication at present appears to be configured (hard coded) per
client when the webdav setup is done. Again, perhaps the client can
re-use the authentication used to auth against the jabber server (if the
webdav/jabber uses a combined authentication server).

I need to allow offline file transfer & room attachments for my company:
I would be happy to share the outcome if possible although I am under
time pressure.  Any directions as to the best way to implement this so
that it can be re-used would be welcome. Also any ideas about the best
webdav server to use: I am thinking of using tomcat/slide (we will be
using kerberos auth for the jabber server, but I may use NTLM for
tomcat, as I notice there is now some support for this in Exodus).

Are there plans to implement offline file transfer in Exodus -- i.e. as
described in JEP0129  ?

My company uses that type of feature with our current proprietary IM
system that we hope to replace with  Jabber.

I can see where others in the community could benefit from this .
