login name syntax

We tested with Exodus version 8, 9.0 and 9.1 and it seems that all versions requires another syntax in the login name. While v8 is
working with spaces in the name (Ludwig Stokkelaar@xxx), V9.0 requires a dot (Ludwig.Stokkelaar@xxx). V9.1 seems only accept
lowercase letters in the loginname (like Ludwig.stokkelaar@xxx)

 

Why does this change that often ? And what's the reason for that ? We planned to work with 9.1 because of group chat and XMPP, but
we need to change all the profiles. As a consequence, the local contact lists will disappear from our users because of a change in
the profile
