Do I have to release exodus plugin under GPL too?

Hi all,

I understand that Exodus is release under GPL, therefore the source code is
available for free and anyone can freely modify it as long as the modified
version is also distributed under GPL.

So if I write a plugin for exodus.., do I have to release this plugin under
GPL too? When I distribute the plugin can I keep it the source and release
the binary only?
