As far as I remember Tiger's iChat doesn't support TLS and support only old style SSL-only port 5223. And as far as I can see there is a blog post about turning off 5223 port on jabber.org: http://www.jabber.org/2009/12/security-notices/ Not sure if "soon" happened or is still going to happen but this might be the case.
