I have mcabber installed so I will test with it today. I tested with mcabber and I was able to connect on port 5222, but I think the connection was unencrypted. :( I'll test further a bit more to see if I can get encryption working, but it's not clear to me if mcabber supports STARTTLS. I've pinged the mcabber developer about that.
