Not to criticize you personally, but I am skeptical about anyone who
posts about privacy and security from a gmail.com address. :-)

More to the point, I am extremely skeptical about whether the 0.1
version of some random code project on the net somewhere is truly
secure (have you followed the history of Crypocat?). Making truly
secure communication technologies is really hard, especially
multi-party security.

XMPP has had SSL support and PGP-based chat since 1999. Not all
clients support it, but many do.
