HEADS UP: news.cis.dfn.de configuration change needed!

Hi,

this HEADS UP message only affects users of news.cis.dfn.de.
If you don't use news.cis.dfn.de as server, please ignore this mail.
If you use this server AND at the same time participate in the DNN
(DFNNetNews) programme, please ignore this mail.

If you are using news.cis.dfn.de and are not a DNN participiant, read on:

Effective today, news.cis.dfn.de and news.individual.net are separate
services with separate user groups. The services news.cis.dfn.de used to
provide have been transferred to the server news.individual.net, which
is operated by the same people who (have) operate(d) news.cis.dfn.de.
See http://news.cis.dfn.de/serversplit-en.html for official information.

Your news.cis.dfn.de password will still work for news.individual.net,
but has stopped working for news.cis.dfn.de today.

The only change necessary for leafnode is telling it about the changed
servername, and renaming an administrative file.

The new server has the same article number pointers, newsgroups, user
names and passwords as news.cis.dfn.de used to have, so the transition
will be very smooth. YOU DO NOT NEED TO RE-REGISTER AT NEWS.INDIVIDUAL.NE=
T.

To update you leafnode-1 or leafnode-2 configuration,

1. log in as root, then type into your root shell:

cd /var/spool/news/leaf.node
mv news.cis.dfn.de news.individual.net
rm -f last:news.cis.dfn.de:*

2. edit /etc/leafnode/config, find the line "server=3Dnews.cis.dfn.de" an=
d
change it so that it reads:

server=3Dnews.individual.net

Then save the config file. That's it - no extra program runs needed.
