Leafnode 1.9.54.rel released (STABLE) - bugfixes (texpire)

Leafnode 1.9.54.rel fixes some bugs in texpire and fetchnews and
introduces a new configuration variable, timeout_lock (in the
configuration file), or LN_LOCK_TIMEOUT via environment.

All users of older leafnode-1.9 series versions should update.


A binary RPM for Linux with glibc 2.2 and i486 or compatible processors
is provided. It also requires a package providing libpcre.so.0 and xinetd=
.


Leafnode 1.9.54 is or will become available in .tar.bz2 format from these=

### INCOMPATIBLE CHANGES
- - Consistency: The lockfile timeout for checkgroups has changed to five
  seconds, checkgroups used to wait indefinitely.

### BUGFIXES
- - Bugfix: fetchnews and texpire would delete a lockfile held by another
  process when there were problems reading the configuration file.
- - Bugfix: when groupexpire settings were used, their memory was leaked =
at
  program exit.
- - Robustness: texpire is a lot more careful about mids files. Johannes =
Berg
  reported aborts related to corrupt mids files. mids files are removed a=
t
  start of any leafnode program.
- - Documentation: Some minor formatting problems in the manual pages wer=
e
  corrected. Reported by Laurent Fousse.

### CHANGES
- - Logging: the number of duplicates that texpire has deleted is now pri=
nted.
- - Feature: The maximum time that programs wait for a lock file can now =
be
  configured through "timeout_lock" in the configuration file and overrid=
den
  by the LN_LOCK_TIMEOUT environment variable, to simplify running fetchn=
ews
  and texpire from a cron job. A workaround was suggested by Dirk-L=FCder=
 Kreie.
- - Feature: texpire has a new "-r" (repair) option that checks harder wh=
ether
  the hard links are correct.
- - Documentation: INSTALL reminds the user to erase the distributor pack=
age
  first before doing a source install.
