I have to correct myself. I did a second test and this time I saw the same 
behaviour initially. But after about 20 minutes I looked again and both 
connections seem to be delaying between retries.

The first time I saw the (mis)behaviour I never did see the delay and got 
pretty quickly to the max-retries limit for the second connection only. So 
I wonder what the difference was.
