By the way, I was thinking an ftp server will probably either enable or disable TLS on the data channel generally, not making the distinction between LISTs or other transfers (this just based on intuition, not on reading the relevant standards or something :) ). In that case then ftp:ssl-protect-list should have the same default value with ftp:ssl-protect-data. This might be a minor thing, but I know of plenty of people who have been confused due to this miconfiguration and due to the unhelpfull errors of libgnutls or libssl.
