You'll be pleased to hear that that the lockfile behaviour has been rewritten, 
and that the workaround shouldn't be need any more. Unfortunely I had to rush 
the commit to get it in RC2 (the first RC2 tarballs was actually uploaded 
before I did my commit) so a small bug made it as well. But it's been crushed 
now...
