what is "gsm ping"?

I have been getting many spams in the Cyrillic alphabet or in English
with .ru URL's and the first characters in the spams are "GSM ping"  I
had not seen such spams until a week or so ago, are they being sent
from cell phones?  The spams are disguised as AUTH requests, otherwise
I would never even see them.
