Yes it is true: Mathopd is still alive. :)
The new beta is at www.mathopd.org.

This beta is the first in a series that will hopefully get CGI up to
scratch. The first beta converts all HTTP headers into HTTP_ environment
variables, rather than a selected few. This should solve the HTTP_VIA
problem.
