I tried you script on my mathopd and it worked  okay.
I dont quite understand your problem, it provides readable listing in
Firefox, Opera, Links -g,
and Links hacked, on other side.

I for 1 prefer to do this in C, one i use is at:
http://feather.aeye.ca/users/lou/index/.
