Tobias, I've just noticed an error in the MRTG 2.9.18 configuration reference (http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/mrtg/reference.html) where it states: for SNMP version if you have a fast router you might want to put a '2' here. This will make mrtg try to poll the 64 bit counters. And thus prevent excessive counter wrapping. Not all routers support this though. Example: 3:public@router1:::::2 This is incorrect - the code requires that you use '2c' as the version rather than just '2'. I had been wondering why I wasn't seeing any change after switching to 2!
