Question about cfgmaker

Hi
In the windows getting started page, it is said to run cfgmaker like

 perl cfgmaker [email protected]


It is not clear though that what is public? Is that the computer name? What
is community string?
Also, should I write the gateway address exactly? Or the public network
interface of the windows server that I have installed mrtg?
