Patrick, I just wanted to let you know that my test program finally 
works.  The problem was that we used a more recent version (1.3.0)  
of the GM driver than Myricom recommended for our hardware (Lanai4), 
i.e. gm-1.2.3 & gm_board_info hanging patches.
 
I am surprised it worked at all, seems that if someone installs the
gm-1.3.0 on an inappropriate system, there should be some type of      
warning/or check.

Thanks again for your help, and also to Ruth, as she suggested
to downgrade the driver, and also to everyone else.
