CPU speed or memory speed/size have no impact on bandwidth. 
PCI does a lot, and it's not because it's written 64/66 that 
you can push 500 MB/s. 
Which PCI chipset are you using ? 
What is the output of "gm_debug -L" ?

Look at Greg's page at http://www.conservativecomputer.com/myrinet/perf.html

You can get 250 MB/s with your Myrinet hardware if the PCI is good enough.
