[Myrinet] heterogeneous cluster combining IA-32 and IA64

Hello.

I am planning to setup a heterogeneous cluster combining IA-32 and IA64 machines, namely 1 dual PIII, 1-2 Itanium 2, and 3-4 P4 Xeon. The purpose of this cluster is for real-time image processing (INT intensive) and interpolation (FP intensive). An API will be written to hide all the parallel processing because users of the cluster will have little knowledge on parallelism.

Has anybody done this before? Please throw in some comment.

As an side issue, I am reading through the GM manual. Long explanation is given for send and receive, but I have difficulty understanding it without simple example of send and receive. Help is needed here.
