There is GMPI_VERSION in gmpi.h, but it's a #define. It's dirty, but you can poke at the binary (nm) and see if functions of the BNR interface (support for MPD) are defined. MPD support came at the same time that the dynamic GM port allocation. It's very unlikely that the application itself or another lib would use BNR.
