It is possible to work without ethernet cards on a functioning
Myrinet cluster as explained in a previous message, but since
ethernet is cheap and simple to install, it is a matter of
convenience to have two networks, particularly when
installing a new version of Myrinet on all nodes.
For clusters with intensive parallel computations, it is also
convenient to decouple file nfs traffic from MPI traffic.
For comfort of network management one could just use
a coaxial ethernet network (no switch) as a cheap solution.
