Instructions and examples of running Myrinet jobs using MPD can be found
in the Myrinet FAQ.

Go to this FAQ, and Search for the keyword "MPD", and you'll see several
entries that are pertinent to your questions.

If you wish to use Myrinet, you must use the device ch_gm.  This same
device is used for spawning jobs with mpirun.ch_gm or mpirun.mpd.  

If you want to run IP over Myrinet (ethernet emulation), you would
ifconfig up the myri0 device and then use ch_p4 or ch_p4mpd when
configuring MPICH.  More details can be found in the following FAQ

I was looking at the MPICH documentation, and this "-y" run-time option
listed for mpirun.

To my knowledge, when we have done MPD testing with MPICH-GM, it has
been with the ch_gm device and we have never used this run-time option. 
My guess is that this option must be related to running MPICH over
IP-over-Myrinet (ethernet emulation).
