Use o plugin check_http do proprio projeto nagios plugins.

Veja o trecho extraído do manual:
 CHECK CERTIFICATE: check_http -H www.verisign.com -C 14

 When the certificate of 'www.verisign.com' is valid for more than 14 days,
 a STATE_OK is returned. When the certificate is still valid, but for less than
 14 days, a STATE_WARNING is returned. A STATE_CRITICAL will be returned when
 the certificate is expired.


Existe a possibilidade de voce não ver esta opção, se o plugin for
compilado sem suporte a SSL. Eu uso esta opção e garanto que funciona.

Se voce precisar, posso te enviar o plugin já compilado. Minha
plataforma é Red Hat 5.2 de 64 bits.
