You will get strong argument from at least 2 of the core developers
on this.  Some people can update application software but not the
underlying OS.

Again, barring a major policy shift, such patches would be rejected.

Let's try and hold off on the policy arguments until after 5.8 gets
out, please. I'm pretty sure there is at least on dev on the team
who won't forget to bring the issue up on our admin list after the
release settles down.
